Advanced Database Cleaner Pro Review (2026)
Advanced Database Cleaner is a WordPress database maintenance plugin designed to remove accumulated clutter, inspect database tables and options, and identify data left behind by plugins or themes. The free version covers many routine cleanup jobs, while the paid versions add deeper orphan detection and scanning tools.
Updated September 2026: this review reflects the current 4.2 release line. Version 4.0 was a major rewrite with a redesigned interface and new scan engine, while 4.1 and 4.2 added more cleanup controls and WooCommerce-specific tools.
Advanced Database Cleaner in 2026: what changed?
- Version 4.0 redesign: the plugin received a substantially redesigned interface, improved scanning, duplicate-meta cleanup and clearer estimates of how much database space can be recovered.
- Post Types cleanup: version 4.1 added a dedicated Post Types module and more granular cleanup controls.
- WooCommerce cleanup: version 4.2 added tools for orphaned product variations, orphaned customer analytics and expired customer sessions.
- Better large-site handling: recent releases improved batching, scan performance and database cleanup behavior on larger WordPress installations.
- Security maintenance: the 2026 release cycle also included security fixes for the paid editions, so keeping the plugin updated matters.
The current WordPress.org listing shows version 4.2.0, more than 100,000 active installations, WordPress 7.1 compatibility and PHP 7.0 as the published minimum requirement.
What does Advanced Database Cleaner do?
WordPress databases naturally accumulate data over time. Revisions, trashed content, expired transients, old comments, unused metadata, stale cron jobs and leftover plugin tables can remain long after they stop being useful.
Advanced Database Cleaner gives you a central place to inspect and clean that data. Its strongest advantage is not simply deleting rows: it helps you understand what the data belongs to before you remove it, which is especially valuable on long-running sites that have gone through many plugins and redesigns.
Advanced Database Cleaner free vs Pro
What the free version can clean
- Old revisions, auto drafts and trashed posts.
- Spam, trashed and pending comments, plus pingbacks and trackbacks.
- Expired transients and other common temporary data.
- Database tables, including optimization and repair controls.
- WordPress options and autoload information.
- Scheduled cron jobs.
- Selected metadata cleanup and duplicate-data cleanup introduced in newer releases.
- Scheduled cleanup and optimization tasks.
For many sites, the free edition is enough for routine database housekeeping. It is particularly useful when the goal is to remove obvious clutter and inspect database growth without paying for a cleanup plugin.
Where the paid version becomes useful
The paid editions become more interesting when you want to identify orphaned data and its probable owner. Premium scanning can detect unused or orphaned options, tables, post meta, user meta, transients and cron jobs, then associate many entries with WordPress core, plugins or themes.
This is especially valuable after a site has been rebuilt or has accumulated years of plugins. Instead of deleting a suspicious table only because it looks unfamiliar, you have more context for deciding whether it is safe to remove.
WooCommerce database cleanup
WooCommerce stores tend to generate considerably more database activity than simple brochure sites. Orders, sessions, analytics, Action Scheduler jobs, product variations and integrations all create data that can grow quickly.
Advanced Database Cleaner 4.2 added three WooCommerce-focused cleanup tools for orphaned product variations, orphaned customer analytics and expired customer sessions. The plugin also adjusted completed Action Scheduler retention defaults to 30 days to better match the ecosystem standard.
These tools can help control database growth, but they should not be treated as a universal performance fix. A large WooCommerce database may also require query profiling, proper object caching, sensible Action Scheduler maintenance and investigation into whichever plugin is generating excessive writes.
Can database cleaning speed up WordPress?
Sometimes, but the benefit depends on the actual bottleneck. Removing thousands of obsolete rows can make backups smaller, administration easier and certain queries more efficient. Cleaning oversized autoloaded options can also matter when unnecessary data is loaded on every request.
But deleting a few revisions from an otherwise healthy database will not transform a slow site. WordPress performance is usually a combination of hosting, caching, PHP execution time, database queries, plugins, theme code, images and frontend assets.
We therefore treat database cleanup as maintenance and diagnosis, not as a one-click speed optimization trick.
How to use Advanced Database Cleaner safely
A database cleaner can permanently remove data, so the most important feature is not the Delete button. It is the ability to inspect what you are deleting first.
- Create a complete database backup. Do this immediately before cleanup, not days earlier.
- Start with obvious housekeeping. Revisions, expired transients and trash are safer starting points than unfamiliar tables or options.
- Preview and identify ownership. If you cannot explain what a table, option or cron event belongs to, do not delete it yet.
- Be careful with inactive plugins. Data from an inactive plugin is not necessarily orphaned if you plan to reactivate it.
- Test important site functions afterward. Check login, forms, checkout, scheduled tasks and any business-critical integrations.
Who should use Advanced Database Cleaner?
It makes the most sense for established WordPress sites that have accumulated years of changes, agencies maintaining client sites, WooCommerce stores with growing databases, and developers who want visibility into tables, options and scheduled tasks.
For a brand-new site with a small database, aggressive cleanup is rarely necessary. The value increases as a site becomes older and more complex.
Advanced Database Cleaner vs Database Cleaner Pro
These are different products. Advanced Database Cleaner is developed by SigmaPlugin, while Database Cleaner is developed by Meow Apps. Both address database maintenance, but their interfaces, scanning logic and paid features differ.
At FastWeb we currently use and include Database Cleaner Pro by Meow Apps where appropriate as part of our managed WordPress maintenance stack. That does not make Advanced Database Cleaner a poor choice: its free edition is capable, and its orphan-data detection remains useful for sites that need deeper inspection.

Final thoughts
Advanced Database Cleaner remains one of the more capable database-maintenance tools for WordPress in 2026. The 4.x redesign made the product more modern, while newer releases expanded its cleanup coverage for WordPress and WooCommerce.
The free version is a sensible option for routine maintenance. The paid editions are most valuable when the real problem is not obvious clutter but identifying orphaned tables, options, metadata and scheduled tasks left behind by years of site changes.
Whichever database cleaner you use, make a fresh backup first and treat unknown data conservatively. A smaller database is useful; a functioning website is more important.
