What is DNS?

A Domain Name System (DNS) is a system that allows your browser to access IP addresses so it can load and render the resources hosted in that server.

Each Internet-connected device has a distinct IP address that other computers may use to locate the device. The Domain Name System saves the need for users to memorize complex IP addresses such as (in IPv4), or more complex alphanumeric IP addresses such as 2400:cb00:2048:1::c629:d7a2 (in IPv6)}

How does DNS work?

As we need an address to find the house of a friend or familiar, a computer needs (and has) an address. This address will let users find a specific website in this massive network known as the internet. In order to show the search result, the computer must translate the written domain (examplesite.com) into the computer-friendly IP address such as

To “delegate” is to set the location of the DNS servers to which the registered domain will be directed. The hosting provider should give the client a list of DNS addresses so she can make this redirection. This action is called “delegation”.

FastWeb works along with Duplika Web Hosting. As an example of how DNS addresses look like, we now share some of their DNS:

  • mar.ns.duplika.com
  • nic.ns.duplika.com
  • rei.ns.duplika.com
  • emi.ns.duplika.com

Each of these servers contain the DNS records for each domain you use with Duplika. DNS records are basically an address book where the contents of each record are stored, and these addresses are usually determined by IP addresses.

If you recently changed your hosting provider, it is likely that you will have to point your domain to the DNS of your new provider. For example in the control panel of your account, you can go to the “Zone editor” where you will find the “address book”. In this section you will be able to make any configurations needed. Consider editing your DNS only if needed and knowing what you are getting into. If you are not sure about how to proceed, we recommend you ask your hosting provider for assistance.
